STARLINK POWER BANK CALCULATOR

Starlink’s published averages: Mini 20–40W, Standard 75–100W. Typical uses the middle, light the low end, heavy the high end.

How you connect it

Some energy is lost converting the battery’s power for the dish. Seekstead assumes 85% reaches it by USB-C or AC, and 90% from a 12V outlet. Change it if you know better.

Other power sources that can run it

A theoretical estimate from published averages and the assumptions shown, not a guarantee. Heavy use, heat, snow melt and battery age all change it.

    QUICK ANSWERS

What power bank does Starlink Mini need?

One USB-C port that gives at least 100W (20V/5A).

Starlink says the Mini needs “a USB PD source with a minimum rating of 100W, 20V/5A”, and that it “will not work with USB PD ratings of 65W or lower”. Check the single-port figure, not the total: a bank sold as “165W” may share that across several ports. Use a USB-C cable rated for 100W (5A) too, such as a USB-C to Starlink Mini power cable.

How much power does Starlink Mini use?

About 20–40W on average, and 15W idle, according to Starlink.

At 12 volts that’s roughly 1.7–3.3 amps, or about 40–80 Ah over a full 24 hours. Starlink’s figures are averages measured at the AC input, including its power supply and router, so real use varies with weather, obstructions and how busy the connection is.

How long will a power bank run Starlink Mini?

For the 100W-capable power banks in our list, about 2 hours 35 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes at typical use.

That assumes Starlink Mini at about 30W (the middle of Starlink’s 20–40W average) and 85% of the battery’s energy reaching the dish over USB-C. Many power banks stay at or under 100 watt-hours, the usual limit for airline carry-on, so expect a few hours rather than a day. For overnight use, a power station or a 12V battery is the usual step up.

Can an Anker power bank run Starlink Mini?

Yes, if its USB-C port gives 100W at 20V/5A.

    From Anker’s own specs: Anker Prime Power Bank (26K, 300W) (USB-C 140W, 99.75 Wh), Anker Prime Power Bank 27,650mAh (250W) (USB-C 140W, 99.54 Wh) and Anker Laptop Power Bank (25K, 165W, built-in cable) (USB-C 100W, 90 Wh) meet the 100W (20V/5A) requirement. Anker 548 Power Bank (PowerCore Reserve 192Wh) (USB-C 60W) doesn’t, so it can’t run a Mini by USB-C despite its bigger battery.

EcoFlow and Starlink: RIVER, DELTA and TRAIL

They can run Starlink Mini for about 8 hours 35 minutes to 2 days 13 hours, depending on the model.

EcoFlow’s RIVER, DELTA and TRAIL models in our list have USB-C ports rated at 100W or more and 12V car outlets of 120–126W, so they can run a Mini either way. For a Starlink Standard, use the AC socket with the Standard’s power supply (TRAIL models have no AC socket). From a 12V outlet the Mini needs a 12V-to-Mini DC lead, such as a 12V car cable for Starlink Mini.

Running Starlink Standard from a power station

Use the power station’s AC socket with the Standard’s own power supply.

The Standard averages 75–100W, according to Starlink, and runs from its AC power supply; Starlink’s DC-DC supply is only sold in select markets. For example, an EcoFlow DELTA 2 (1024 Wh) would run a Standard at about 88W for roughly 9 hours 55 minutes from its AC socket. Across the power stations with AC sockets in our list, that’s about 2 hours 45 minutes to 19 hours 55 minutes.

    HOW WE WORK IT OUT

Run time = capacity (watt-hours) × the share that reaches the dish ÷ the dish’s average watts. First the calculator checks the connection can run the dish at all: USB-C needs 100W (20V/5A) for the Mini, a 12V outlet needs at least the Mini’s 60W input rating, and the Standard needs AC. Starlink figures come from Starlink’s support articles (power specifications, USB power rating, batteries and power banks); power bank and power station figures from each maker’s official page.
