The current AU travel guidance allows up to 30 days abroad on Roam Unlimited. Other Roam plans are for your registered home country. Check authorised destinations and registration requirements before departure.
While moving
A portable kit is not automatic permission to use it in motion. The plan, exact hardware, mounting and location must all support that use. Residential is not an in-motion plan.
Roam is not a promise of coverage everywhere or an emergency communications service. Clear sky, power, service availability and local permissions still matter. Marine and aviation use have additional rules.

A defined high-speed allowance for lighter use. Starlink’s AU page lists unlimited low-speed data after the allowance; that is not equivalent to continuing at full speed.

More room for regular use without the same high-speed allowance. Speeds and network precedence still vary; “unlimited” does not mean unlimited location permissions.

What happens between trips?
Standby is a paid lower-service state, not a blanket promise of free pausing. Check its current monthly fee, billing timing, availability and what happens when you resume before counting a saving. Cancelling and Standby are different decisions.
What should I budget for?

SERVICE ≠ HARDWARE
Now choose what you want to carry.
Roam describes the service. Mini describes a kit. Mini’s integrated Wi-Fi and smaller form make it worth exploring for caravan and camping use, but a suitable power supply and open sky are still part of ownership.

BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Five checks for a smoother first stop.
Confirm the route is permitted.
Use current provider availability and travel guidance. A map marked “coming soon” is not a usable destination today.
Check overseas conditions early.
Starlink’s current travel article describes registration requirements and limits. Extended travel or relocation needs a separate plan/account decision; do not assume an old 60-day rule applies.
Test the exact power arrangement.
Run the kit using the supply and cables you will carry, with enough capacity for the rest of your trip.
Choose the campsite for both people and equipment.
Shade can be comfortable for you but obstruct the terminal. Plan a safe clear-sky position and cable route.
Try a normal task before relying on it.
Make a call, load your work and check the app. Keep a separate fallback for essential communications.
